About Dr. Rose

Dr. Ryan A. Rose is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Hand, Wrist, Elbow, and Shoulder Surgery at UT Health San Antonio. He currently serves as Chief of Hand Surgery, Vice Chair of Education, and Residency Program Director for the Department of Orthopaedics.

His clinical interests center on complex trauma and reconstruction of the entire upper extremity, including injuries to nerves, tendons, ligaments, and fractures. His elective practice encompasses arthroplasty of the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and digits, as well as the management of nerve compressions and arthritis.

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Dr. Rose completed medical school at the University of New Mexico before training at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas — home to the Parkland Trauma Center. During residency he was appointed Chief Resident and honored with the G. Truett James Award for Excellence in Training.

Dr. Rose was selected as the Littler Eaton Hand Traveling Fellow at NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases — the sole recipient for that year. His fellowship included training at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, the Hand Institute of New Zealand, and a Microsurgery Course at Columbia University.

He is actively engaged in clinical research in upper extremity surgery and opioid use, participating in randomized controlled trials with findings presented at national and international scientific meetings.
